TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Besides teaching workshops, I have taught at the College of Marin, UC Berkeley Extension, San Francisco Art Institute, Kennedy University, California College of the Arts, Center for the Book, National Institute of Art and Disabilities and The Richmond Art Center. I have also been a visiting artist and lectured at Rollins College, Orlando, Florida, Dominican University, Sonoma State, Maine College of Art and Sierra Nevada College.

Teaching is my way of passing on my knowledge and experience of being a working artist for over 30 years. I am passionate about art making and its process. I have taught all levels of Drawing, Painting, Printing, Collage and Mix Mediums. Making art can be challenging and exciting at the same time. I believe in taking risks and thinking outside the box, letting go and keeping it fresh. Art Can Change Lives

TESTIMONIALS

I do love to draw and at Heather’s workshop we did just that. Using graphite, cold wax, ink, the whole day was one of wonderful mark making! We drew with sticks, graphite and charcoal, with eyes closed and open(!), with our dominant and non dominant hands. One of the biggest things the exercises did for me was to help me get out of my head, relax, and just draw. The exercises got me started down the path of looking at marks on canvas and responding to them. Sounds simple, but I didn’t really do that, until I took this workshop. I highly recommend this workshop!

I have been a huge fan of Heather’s work for a long time, so when I heard she gave workshops I decided to try it out for the fun of it. But it turned out to be much more than just fun, it actually opened my mind to new materials and techniques. Very inspiring, I highly recommend it.

I have taken public classes with Heather, private classes in her studio and have also had her critique my work and help me to curate for shows. Heather has a keen visual aesthetic and delivers feedback in a direct way. She helps me to simplify my overworked pieces and access my playful side to bring whimsy to pieces that need 911. She has years of experience she generously shares and I have really benefited from working with her.

“Heather Wilcoxon brings to bear the wealth of her experience as a successful working artist along with an intuitive sense of the needs of those in attendance in her workshops as well as those fortunate enough to participate up close and personally in her mentoring program. I have had the opportunity to work with Heather as a co-facilitator of mixed-media workshops and to witness first hand the results of her considerable skills as they impact the practice of emerging and established artists”
